4 arrested in Jamshedpur Marine Drive firing case; pistol, ammunition seized

Jamshedpur, June 12: Police have arrested four persons, including a history-sheeter, in connection with the firing incident reported on Marine Drive under the Kadma police station area earlier this week.

A country-made pistol, four live cartridges and two spent shells were recovered during the operation, police said.

The arrested accused have been identified as Anshu Karmakar (20), Rajesh Lohra (35), Vishal Karmakar and Shubham alias Shivam Lohar.

Attack Reported Near Bihari Basti

The case was registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by Samir Nag, who alleged that the accused opened fire on him and his friends, Sunny Gupta and Vikas Tanti, near Bihari Basti on June 10.

According to the complaint, the assailants also attacked them with bricks and stones, causing injuries.

Special Team Formed for Investigation

Addressing the media on Friday, City SP Lalit Meena said a special investigation team was constituted under the direction of the Senior Superintendent of Police to crack the case.

During raids conducted in the Sati Ghat area along the Kharkai river, police apprehended Anshu Karmakar and Rajesh Lohra. The firearm allegedly used in the incident, along with live ammunition, was recovered from their possession.

Subsequently, Vishal Karmakar and Shubham alias Shivam Lohar were also arrested.

Old Rivalry Suspected Motive

During interrogation, the accused allegedly disclosed that the attack was the result of an old rivalry between Anshu Karmakar and complainant Samir Nag.

Police are investigating the background of the dispute and the involvement of other persons in the incident.

History-Sheeter Among Those Arrested

Police said Rajesh Lohra has a criminal record and is named in several cases, including those related to murder and theft.

All four accused have been sent to judicial custody.

Meanwhile, police said efforts are continuing to identify and arrest other suspects allegedly involved in the firing incident.
