JN.1 sub-variant

Up until December 5, the daily case count had fallen to double digits, but the advent of a new sub-variant JN.1 and the cold weather has caused the cases to rise once more.

As of December 29, 2023, nine states had reported 178 instances of the JN.1 sub-variant, with Goa reporting the highest count at 47, followed by Kerala with 41 cases.

Other states reporting JN.1 cases include 36 in Gujarat, 34 in Karnataka, nine in Maharashtra, four each in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, two in Telangana and one in Delhi.
