719 candidates to contest Delhi Assembly elections

New Delhi, Jan 19: The Election Commission of India has announced that 719 candidates will be contesting the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, which are set to take place on February 5 for a total of 70 seats.

This comes after the scrutiny of 981 nominations filed by various candidates. The scrutiny process, conducted on January 18, resulted in the acceptance of 1,040 nominations, while 477 were rejected.

The final date for filing nominations was January 17, with candidates having until January 20 to withdraw their candidacies.

The New Delhi assembly constituency has the highest number of candidates, with 23 individuals vying for the seat. In contrast, the Patel Nagar and Kasturba Nagar constituencies have the fewest, with just 5 candidates each.

Additionally, a total of 29 nomination papers were filed for the New Delhi Assembly seat, with candidates submitting 40 papers in total.
