Daltonganj, May 20: In a significant gesture to encourage timely assistance to road accident victims, eight Good Samaritans from Palamu district were honoured on Wednesday for helping injured persons reach government health facilities during the crucial “golden hour” after accidents.

Deputy Commissioner of Palamu, Dilip Pratap Singh Shekhawat, presented cheques of Rs 2,000 each to the eight individuals in recognition of their exemplary humanitarian service.

The honoured Good Samaritans are:

  • Ghulam Mustafa
  • Basant Kumar
  • Ashok Kumar Yadav
  • Sanjiv Kumar Chandravanshi
  • Vijay Pandey
  • Pawan Kumar
  • Zafar Imam
  • Alok Patel

Officials said all eight played an important role in ensuring that road accident victims received immediate medical attention within the critical first hour after accidents — often referred to as the “golden hour” — which is considered vital for saving lives.

According to a release issued by the Public Relations Department (PRD), DC Shekhawat urged people to come forward and help road accident victims without fear of legal complications or police questioning.

“Helping a road accident victim is a humanitarian act. Citizens should not hesitate in extending assistance during emergencies,” the DC said, according to the PRD note.

The district administration also reiterated that those helping accident victims are protected under Good Samaritan guidelines and should not fear unnecessary police procedures.

“Help the road accident victim. It is not a police case for the person offering assistance,” the PRD note emphasised.

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to spread awareness about the importance of immediate medical assistance during road emergencies and to encourage citizens to act promptly in saving lives.
