8 jawans killed in Naxal IED attack on police vehicle in Chhattisgarh

Bijapur, Jan 6: A vehicle carrying police personnel was blown up by Naxalites using an IED in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Monday.

Eight jawans from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and one driver were killed in the incident.

The explosion is said to have occurred on the Bedre-Kutru Road in Bijapur district.

According to the IG Bastar P Sundarraj, the DRG jawans from Dantewada were on their way back in a Scorpio after participating in a joint operation in Dantewada, Narayanpur, and Bijapur.

The Maoist assault on the DRG marks the largest attack on security personnel by Naxalites in the past two years.
