942 personnel to be awarded Gallantry and Service Medals on Republic Day 2025

New Delhi, Jan 25: On the occasion of Republic Day 2025, the Central government announced gallantry and service medals for 942 personnel across various services, including police, fire, Home Guard and Civil Defence (HG&CD), and correctional departments.

The distribution of awards includes 95 gallantry medals, 101 President’s Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM), and 746 Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM). Of the 95 gallantry medals, 78 were presented to police personnel, while 17 went to members of the fire services.

Among the recipients, five individuals have been posthumously honored for their bravery: DSP Himayun Muzzammil from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Head Constable Girjesh Kumar Uddey of the Border Security Force, Constable Sunil Kumar Pandey from the CRPF, Head Constable Ravi Sharma from the Sashastra Seema Bal, and Selection Grade Fireman Satish Kumar Raina.

Gallantry awards predominantly went to personnel from challenging regions: 28 from Left Wing Extremism-affected areas, another 28 from Jammu and Kashmir, three from the North-East, and 36 from other regions. These awards recognize their exceptional acts of bravery.

The PSM honors have been awarded to 85 police officers, five fire service personnel, seven from Civil Defence and Home Guard Services, and four correctional staff.

Similarly, the MSM was distributed among 634 police personnel, 37 fire service members, 39 from Civil Defence and Home Guard Services, and 36 correctional service staff.
