Dhanbad, Feb 27: The faculty members of IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad, department of management studies and industrial engineering today held a workshop in a remote government school and taught the students complexities of trigonometric formulae and geometric shapes through 3D techniques.
The workshop was held in tribal-dominated High School Tundi in Tundi block, around 37 km away from IIT ISM Dhanbad in which a total of 273 students including 115 boys and 122 girls were present.
Prof Rashmi Singh, assistant professor of the department had organized the workshop in which the IIT ISM team comprising Prof Niladri Das (chief speaker), Kalyani Kumar (project staff), Dipendra and Roushan Kumar Pandey (project assistant) taught the students 3-dimensional shapes with five models to make them familiar with structures that have length, width and height.

The Department of Science & Technology sponsored the project. The title of the workshop was ‘Motivate School Students and Teachers Concerning the Relevance of Science and Technology through Innovative Communication Techniques’.
“We dealt with cube, rectangular prism, sphere, cone, and cylinder during the workshop,” said Prof Singh and added that learning 3D shapes can also help in the artistic development of students as this can help to enhance their creativity and innovative thought process.
Prof Niladri Das said that understanding of 3D shapes can foster better visualization and increase multiple perceptions, which plays a crucial role in child development.
Abhimanyu Kumar, headmaster of the school highly appreciated the IIT ISM team and said, that though, mathematical classes are held regularly in school, such workshops play a crucial role in developing the interest of students towards the subject.
Anil Soren, a class X student, who attended the workshop held today said that the 3-D models of different shapes brought by IIT ISM helped them to understand the shapes like a rectangular prism, sphere, cone etc in a better way.
