Jamshedpur, Feb 29: Satnam Singh Gambhir, the East India President of the All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF), has penned a poignant letter to the Prime Minister urging the central government to confer the status of a martyr upon the legendary freedom fighter, Bhagat Singh.

Gambhir emphasized the pivotal role Bhagat Singh played in the country’s struggle for independence and stressed that it is disheartening that his sacrifice is not officially recognized as martyrdom in government records.

In his letter, Gambhir highlighted Bhagat Singh’s iconic status among the youth, emphasizing that every child in the country is familiar with the name of this national hero. Bhagat Singh, who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country at a tender age, holds a revered place in history, and it is crucial that his contribution is duly acknowledged.

Gambhir, representing the All India Sikh Students Federation, called upon the Government of India to rectify this historical oversight by officially designating Bhagat Singh as a martyr. He asserted that it is essential to pay a true tribute to Bhagat Singh’s unparalleled dedication to the country’s freedom struggle.

Furthermore, Gambhir proposed that March 23, the day Bhagat Singh was executed, should be declared a national holiday. This, he believes, would serve as a fitting homage to the martyr and ensure that the youth of today are not left feeling disillusioned.

Gambhir expressed determination, stating that the All India Sikh Students Federation will persist in its efforts until Bhagat Singh is rightfully accorded the status of a martyr and March 23 is officially recognized as a national holiday.

The call for these recognitions stems from a desire to immortalize Bhagat Singh’s legacy and instil a sense of pride and respect for the sacrifices made by the heroes of the independence movement among the younger generations.
