Jamshedpur, March 11: A semi-naked body of an elderly woman was found lying in a field under the Nimdih Thana area in the adjoining  Seraikela-Kharsawan district about 40 km away from here on Monday morning.

The body was identified as Vimla Mahto wife of Gangadhar Mahto, a resident of Lengdih village in Nimdih where the villagers were shocked to know able the sensational incident.

The police said this to be a case of murder though the motive behind it is not known.

A trail of blood was found oozing out of the elderly woman, suggesting that she had been murdered. The scantily-clad body suggests she might have been subject to rape also.

OC, Nimdih Thana, Tanzil Khan said to have sent the body to the Seraikela Sadar Hospital for postmortem.

“There is hardly any doubt about the elderly woman being murdered but whether she was raped before the murder is a matter of investigation. An autopsy report is expected to get the matter clear, ” said Khan while talking to The Jharkhand Story.

According to sources, Gangadhar Mahto has a handicapped son and he had no enmity with anyone as such.

Sources said on Sunday afternoon the victim had gone to her paddy field to water the crops but did not return home. In the morning her semi-naked body was found lying in the field.
