Ranchi, March 11: BJP candidate Pradeep Verma and JMM alliance nominee Sarfaraz Ahmad are set to get elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha as the deadline for filing nominations ended on Monday.

The biennial elections are scheduled to be held on February 21.

The NDA and the JMM alliance have clear numbers for electing their candidates.

The scrutiny will be conducted on March 12, while the last date for withdrawal is March 14.

The two seats fell vacant in Jharkhand after Sameer Oraon (BJP) and Dheeraj Sahu (Congress) completed their tenure.

Harihara Mahapatra’s move remains a mystery

Harihara Mahapatra, a businessman, had also purchased a nomination paper, but he did not turn up to file documents for the reasons best known to him.

The BJP and the JMM-Congress camps maintained that they never considered supporting Mahapatra. So, it remained a mystery why and how Mahapatra tried to enter the Upper House from Jharkhand..
