Dhanbad, March 23: Important documents of Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL) were gutted in a major fire that broke out late Friday night in Koyla Bhawan, the headquarters of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) under Saraidhela police station.

Fire breaks out on the third floor

A CMPDIL official said a fire broke out in the third-floor secretariat of the CMPDIL regional director in Koyla Bhawan at around 2.30 to 2.45 am on Saturday.

CISF personnel on duty saw fire and immediately informed the Dhanbad fire station, BCCL rescue team, and senior officials of CMPDIL and BCCL. The Regional Director in charge of CMPDIL, CISF DIG, and BCCL officers reached Koyla Bhawan and broke the third-floor door to allow the fire-fighting team to extinguish the fire.

Fire controlled in four hours

Dhanbad fire station officer-in-charge Laxman Prasad said five fire-fighting vehicles were pressed, and the fire was controlled in four hours.

“Prima facie, a short circuit looks like the cause of the fire, but the real cause would be revealed in the incident probe report,” said Laxman Prasad, a fire officer.

The senior officials of CMPDIL who reached the spot within half an hour of receiving information said that damage from a fire could be determined only after assessment. Major papers were stored in the office.
