Ranchi, March 23: To celebrate the Spring season in Jharkhand, IQAC and the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at St. Xavier’s College Ranchi organised the Spring Photography Festival 2024 on Friday.

The festival gave budding young photographers a platform to capture and display the beauty of the spring season in Jharkhand and exhibit their photography skills.

The event took place in Fr C.D. Brouwer Auditorium in the presence of Diwakar Prasad, Chief Photographer of the Hindustan Times, Ranchi, Principal of St Xavier’s College Ranchi Fr. Dr Nabore Lakra, SJ, Vice Principal Fr. Dr Pradeep Robert Kujur, SJ, Rector Fr. Dr Alexius Ekka, SJ, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication Dr. Santosh Kiro, and other faculty members.

Welcome speech

A welcome speech was delivered by Dr Santosh Kiro, who shared with the students the essence and beauty of the spring season.

50 photographs on display

The principal felicitated Diwakar. Fr. Dr. Alexius Ekka shared his views on the art of photography and congratulated the students for participating in the event.

Rev Fr. Dr. Nabore Lakra encouraged the students to keep their passion for photography burning and even cited the example of Iconic Indian Photographer Raghu Rai, who paved the path for photojournalism in India.

In his speech, Rev Fr. Dr Pradeep Kujur talked about the importance of photography. Diwakar Prasad shared his technical knowledge of photojournalism, such as human angle and light intensity and encouraged the budding photographers to keep working on their skills.

More than 100 photographs made entries in the festival, out of which 50 were displayed, and the top 3 photographs were awarded, followed by a photo exhibition, which marked the end of the program.

St. Xavier’s College Ranchi organises events and competitions for its students to showcase their talent. It is an institution that provides and promotes the holistic development of its students.
