Dhanbad, April 7: It is officially on record that the police confiscated 10 KG of Bhang and 9 KG of Ganja (marijuana) and kept them in the Malkhana of a police station in the Dhanbad district for six years. However, rats ate them.

The police officer reported this to the court of Principal District and Session Judge Ram Sharma on Saturday. The court had directed the police station to exhibit the seized materials (Bhang and Ganja).

Public Prosecutor Abdhesh Kumar, based on the concerned police station’s officer-in-charge application, informed the court about it. The police officer, in his application, said rats ate 10 KG Bhang and 9 KG  Ganja, which were kept in Malkhana of the police station.

They eventually informed the court that a ‘Sanha’ had been registered against rats  in the police station.

The bizarre incident happened in Rajganj police station of the district, around 18  km from the district headquarters.

Six years ago, on December 14, 2018, Rajganj police arrested Shambhu Prasad Agrawal and his son with 10 kg Bhang and 9 KG Ganja. In this regard, an FIR was lodged against them at the police station.

During the trial, the court ordered Investigating Officer (IO) Jayprakash Prasad to exhibit the confiscated Bhang and Ganja on April 6.

IO Jayprakash Prasad appeared in the court on Saturday with the application of the Rajganj police station officer in charge, saying that rats destroyed all confiscated materials.

Defence lawyer Abhay Bhatt said that since police could not exhibit the confiscated material, it proves that his client was trapped in a false case.
