THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

Srinagar, April 23: At Srinagar’s Tulip Garden, the Election Commission of India (ECI) hosted a massive voter awareness program as part of SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation).

The purpose of the awareness campaign was to inform the public about the value of voting, voter registration procedures, and electoral participation.

The ECI’s flagship initiative for voter education, SVEEP raises voter consciousness and enhances voter literacy in India. This multi-intervention program aims to raise voter awareness and encourage informed participation by educating people, voters, and electors about the election process through a variety of channels and media.

Polling took place in Udhampur on April 19 during Phase 1, while Jammu, Anantnag-Rajouri, Srinagar, and Baramulla are scheduled to vote on April 26, May 7, May 13, and May 20 respectively.

EC forms task force to address weather concerns amid polling

The Election Commission convened a meeting with relevant authorities earlier on Monday to discuss the evolving weather conditions. A task force was also formed to examine the effects of heat waves and humidity before to each polling phase, looking for any alarming trends and formulating mitigation plans.

The Commission instructed MoHFW (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) to give state health authorities the instructions they need to get ready for and provide support in the event that a heatwave interferes with election operations.

As per its current advisory of March 16, 2024, the Commission will conduct a separate review with state CEOs to guarantee sufficient arrangements at polling places, including shamiyana, drinking water, fans, and other required minimum facilities, etc.
