CII Jharkhand holds meet on how to ensure safety at workplaces

Jamshedpur, April 26: The Jharkhand state chapter of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) today organised a workshop on health and occupational safety on the theme of “Prioritizing Wellness: Empowering Safety in the Workplace.” Eminent safety leaders deliberated on prioritising workplace safety and all life folds.

Discussions on safety measures

Ranjot Singh, Chairman, CII Jharkhand State Council, and Managing Director Emdet Jamshedpur Pvt Ltd, highlighted safety as the foremost area of focus in CII Jharkhand’s agenda for industrial development for 2024.

He focused on statistics of safety that poor workforce mental health costs Indian employers around $14 billion each year, with 80% of the Indian workforce reporting mental health issues.

Continuous journey of learning

He further emphasized that one’s commitment to safety doesn’t end with compliance but extends to a continuous journey of learning and improvement.

Singh encouraged striving for excellence and further enhancing safety practices for the benefit of all stakeholders.

Health and safety of employees

Diloo Parikh, Chairman of CII Jamshedpur Zonal Council and Managing Director of Vaidehi Motors Pvt Ltd, emphasised the health and safety of employees as the utmost important aspect of a company’s smooth and successful functioning.

He further elaborated the importance of safety leadership and empowered individuals to take ownership and responsibility for individual safety performance.

He deliberated, “Ensuring a safe work environment is not only an ethical and legal responsibility but also contributes to the overall success and well-being of both employees and the organisation”.

Neeraj Kumar Sinha, Convenor, CII Jharkhand Safety Panel & Chief – Safety, Tata Steel Limited – “Safety should not be looked at as a cost, but rather as an investment”.

Safety affects productivity

Sinha illuminated Safety as the need of the hour. He elaborated on how safety affects productivity at a workplace, and thus, all corrective measures should be taken by an organisation towards acknowledging the best safety practices at work.

He stressed that every school and college must have a safety curriculum. Sinha lauded the efforts of CII in organising the workshop on Health and Occupational Safety, which is a burning topic of the decade for all.

The CII Jharkhand Workshop on Health and Occupational Safety, “Prioritizing Wellness: Empowering Safety in the Workplace,” was a forum where the participants had the opportunity to interact with safety professionals and thought leaders and learn best practices.

Eminent Speakers who shared their views during the session included Abhishek Kumar, Senior Manager Safety (Mechanical Maintenance), Tata Steel Ltd; Dr Abdul Mallick, Plant Medical Officer, Tata Steel Ltd and Sukesh Jha, Senior Area Manager Corporate Services Safety, Tata Steel Ltd.

 

The workshop witnessed more than 120 participants from around 30 companies of Jharkhand.
