Jharkhand Weather: IMD issues thunderstorm and lightning alerts for next 72 hours

Jamshedpur, May 8: IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre issued a forecast of thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by rain at several places across Jharkhand in the next 72 hours.

Today, thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty wind (max wind speed: 40-50 kmph) are expected at a few isolated places over the state.

Tomorrow, May 9, thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty wind (max wind speed: 30-40 kmph) are expected at isolated pockets of the state.

A cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Madhya Pradesh and the neighbourhood at 1.5 km above mean sea level.

A low-pressure trough from south Jharkhand to West Madhya Pradesh was running from north interior Odisha to southeast Rajasthan across Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh at 0.9 km above the mean sea level.

Satellite pictures indicated that the cyclonic circulation over south Jharkhand and the neighbourhood at 0.9 km above mean sea level has merged with the above trough.

Statistics revealed that several places in southern and central Jharkhand last evening experienced thundershowers and lightning activity.

Weathermen confirmed it to be a Nor’wester or Kalbaishakhi in local parlance triggered by the cyclonic circulation coupled with the trough.
