Ranchi, May 31: The Election Commission has put in place a fool-proof arrangement for voting in Dumka, Rajmahal and Godda parliamentary constituencies on Saturday.

There are 14 candidates in Rajmahal and 19 each in Godda and Dumka.

Chief Electoral Officer K. Ravi Kumar said that every booth in Dumka, Rajmahal and Godda will be monitored through webcasting from the control room. One camera has been installed inside and outside each booth. Observers are also keeping an eye on the entire situation.

He said that polling personnel have reached the polling stations. All polling personnel will return the same day after voting.

EC takes every step to increase voting percentage

Addressing a press conference, the CEO said every possible arrangement has been made to increase the voting percentage amid the possibility of rain. “On the day of polling, arrangements have been made to bring and take voters from remote areas to the polling booth by vehicle. Arrangements have also been made to bring senior and handicapped voters to the polling booth,” he pointed out.

He appealed that this time voting is throughout the day, take out time and vote with family and neighbours.

He said that security forces have been deployed at every booth to ensure fair and fear-free polling. “The border of Bihar and West Bengal connected to the polling area has been sealed. Bike-riding quick response team has also been deployed,” he said.

Kumar said that a driver of a private bus involved in election work had died in Deoghar. “His family will be provided ex-gratia grant as per rules,” he added.

He informed media persons that since the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct, illegal material and cash worth Rs 134 crore, 75 lahks have been seized in Jharkhand till now.

53.23 lakh voters in three constituencies

The CEO said that the total number of voters in the three parliamentary constituencies of Godda, Rajmahal and Dumka is 53,23,886. Among them, there are 27,00,538 men, 26,23,315 women and 33 transgender voters.

The total number of booths is 6258. Out of these, 489 booths are in urban areas and 5769 booths are in rural areas. 241 booths will be in the hands of women. While at 7 booths, Divyangs and at 11 youth will handle all the voting arrangements. 18 booths are unique.
