Sultanpur, July 2: In a defamation case related to Rahul Gandhi’s allegedly objectionable remarks about Union Home Minister Amit Shah, an MP-MLA court in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur has asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to appear in person before it on July 26.

The leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday but was unable to attend because of the ongoing parliament session.

Kashi Prasad Shukla, Gandhi’s lawyer, attended the court and requested a new hearing date. In response, Judge Shubham Verma asked Gandhi to appear personally on July 26.

In 2018, a defamation case was filed against Gandhi due to his purportedly objectionable comments about Amit Shah.

BJP leader Vijay Mishra filed the defamation case against Rahul Gandhi.

On February 20 of this year, Gandhi paused his “Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra” in Amethi to appear in court, where he was granted bail.
