Daltonganj, July 13: Cheques worth Rs. 1,84,90,000 were disbursed among 33 recipients here today at the national Lok Adalat under the victim compensation scheme.

Around half a dozen disbursal of the cheques were done right at the take-off of the National Lok Adalat under the care and supervision of the principal district and sessions judge Niraj Kumar Srivastav and his battery of judicial officers, including the principal judge, family court, and senior judges.

Cheque to victims by journalist, lawyer too

DLSA Secretary Arpit Shrivastava holding cheques in hand read out the names of the victims, four women and one man, who in all simplicity, were handed down cheques.

A ‘common man’s journalist’ was also invited by the principal district and sessions judge Niraj Kumar Srivastav to hand down a cheque to a victim.

The principal district and sessions judge asked his officials to ensure that the president of the Palamu Bar Association Ramdeo Prasad Yadav should also give away cheques and wanted to know if MACT cases’ cheques are ready.

The president of the Palamu Bar Association Ramdeo Prasad Yadav was equally modest in his response when he said “Let the National Lok Adalat sit on its work.”

Victim compensation scheme

Speaking to The Jharkhand Story correspondent, the DLSA secretary said, “Fiscal assistance under the victim compensation scheme comes in interim and final form. Great care and caution are taken before the cheques under the victim compensation scheme are doled out.”

Arpit Shrivastava recalled that in his two-year stint here there came just one episode where a woman applicant tried for victim compensation by passing her husband’s death by suicide as that of murder.

The principal district and sessions judge Niraj Kumar Srivastav gently referring to his battery of judges and judicial officers said, “Look at these people. They first awarded punishment. They are the ones who have ordered for relief. Yeh woh log hain jo pahley saza diye. Ab yeh rahat.”
