THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

Kathmandu, July 15: KP Sharma Oli took the oath as Nepal’s Prime Minister on Monday. He was appointed as the country’s Prime Minister for the fourth time on Sunday to lead the new coalition government.

He is considered to be pro-China. Oli became the Prime Minister with the support of the largest party in Parliament, the Nepali Congress.

Oli (72) replaced Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, who lost the trust vote in the House of Representatives on Friday. The process of forming a new government began according to Article 76 (2) of the Constitution.

President Ram Chandra appointed KP Sharma Oli, leader of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPI-UML), as the new Prime Minister of Nepal.

Oli must secure vote of confidence within 30 days

Oli must now secure a vote of confidence from Parliament within 30 days of his appointment. He will need at least 138 votes in the 275-member House of Representatives.

This is the fourth time Oli has taken the oath as Prime Minister. His first term as Prime Minister was from October 11, 2015, to August 3, 2016, during which relations between Kathmandu and New Delhi were tense. He served as Prime Minister again from February 5, 2018, to May 13, 2021.

After this, he remained in office from May 13, 2021, to July 13, 2021, due to then-President Bidya Devi Bhandari. Later, the Supreme Court ruled that Oli’s continuation as Prime Minister was unconstitutional.

Nepal has faced continuous political instability, and in the 16 years since the establishment of the republic system, the country has seen 14 different governments.
