Ranchi, August 1: The Pakur district administration today stopped Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma from visiting Gopinathpur village, where two groups clashed recently.

Under a prescheduled programme, Sarma, who is the BJP’s co-incharge for the Assembly elections, arrived in Jharkhand today and proceeded to Pakur from Deoghar. He was, however, allowed to visit other parts of Pakur district, except Gopinathpur.

Notably, according to reports, a large number of miscreants from West Bengal entered the Jharkhand border and pelted stones, threw bombs and fired. One person died due to firing on the Bengal border. Miscreants from the West Bengal border entered Gopinathpur village and set fire to a couple of houses. Some houses were also vandalized.

Notably, the BJP has strongly raised the issue of Bangladeshi infiltrators in Jharkhand, particularly in Santhal Pargana, which, it says, has changed the demographic profile.

Meanwhile, the Assam CM, speaking to a news channel, said that he was stopped from visiting Gopinathpur as it would have exposed the government’s patronage to Bangladeshi infiltrators.
