Dili, August 10: President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday was honoured with the Grand-Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste, the highest civilian award in the country, by President José Ramos-Horta.

In a post on X, her office announced that Murmu, 66, was honored with the award for her dedication to education, social welfare, women’s empowerment, and her achievements in public service.

President Murmu stated that the award symbolizes the strong friendship between India and Timor-Leste.

After completing her visits to New Zealand and Fiji, Murmu arrived in Dili on Saturday for the last leg of her three-nation tour.

Murmu’s visit marks the first time an Indian president has travelled to the Southeast Asian nation Timor-Leste.

Her office reported that President Ramos-Horta gave her a warm welcome at the airport. She also received a ceremonial welcome and a guard of honour at the Presidential Palace in Dili.

President Murmu engaged in detailed talks with President Ramos-Horta on strengthening bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
