Dhanbad, Aug 20: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has urged the chief minister to immediately issue an ordinance on the Medical Protection Act (MPA) to restore the confidence of doctors in the state.
IMA state president Dr AK Singh today shot off a memorandum to the chief minister and said that if he was committed to the safety of doctors then the Medical Protection Act should be implemented through an ordinance in his present tenure. Doctors will be grateful forever, he added.
Medical Protection Bill pending with select committee
Dr AK Singh, in his letter, has said medical fraternity of the state is angry that for nine months Medical Protection Bill has been pending in the ‘Select Committee’, but neither a meeting nor discussion was held on this crucial matter. “Health Minister Banna Gupta took a personal interest and made several changes in the interest of doctors and patients,” he reminded.

“Doctors fraternity is sad and surprised that the cabinet passed the proposal and the bill, tabled in the assembly, was sent to the select committee,” said the IMA president.
Dr Singh in his memorandum to the chief minister has said that his commitment to the protection of doctors has enhanced high hopes for the medical fraternity. The IMA has also made the chief minister recall that when he was leader of the opposition he had promised to pass MPA.
Boycott continues in 6 medical college hospitals
Indefinite boycott of senior residents, postgraduate students, junior doctors and Interns in hospitals of all six medical colleges, including Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) Ranchi continued even on the third day on Tuesday in protest of the Kolkata doctor’s murder and for protection.
The Junior Doctors Association (JDA) RIMS and the IMA Junior Doctors Network (JDN) are leading the indefinite boycott of OPDs. However, routine OT will continue till the government ensure safety coverage for doctors.
