Ranchi, Sept 2: Assam Chief Minister and Jharkhand BJP State Election Co-in-charge Himanta Biswa Sarma today launched a major attack on the Hemant government and said it was causing the death of youth in the state. “It is not giving jobs but is giving death,” he alleged.
Addressing a press conference here, Sarma said that an advertisement was issued in the year 2023 for the recruitment of police on 583 posts in the Excise Department. “If this government wanted, it could have completed the recruitment process by conducting physical tests in good weather from October to March, but today, the way the physical test was conducted in a hurry in this humid heat without ensuring the necessary arrangements, 15 youths died during the race,” he pointed out.

The deceased include Pintu Rajak, Mahesh Mahto, Amresh Kumar, Sarvagya Yadav, Ajay Kumar Mahto, Pradeep Kumar, Abhishek Kumar, Sumit Kumar, Mahesh Mehta, Suraj Kumar Verma, Pradeep Kumar Shah, Sumit Yadav, Vikas Linda, Deepak Paswan, and Arun Kumar.
BJP State President and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi and Leader of Opposition Amar Kumar Bauri were also present at the press conference.
He said that all these youths come from poor families. “They stayed awake all night to stand in line for the competition race. Some people even ran while hungry,” he said.
No proper arrangements at exam centres
He said that in such a situation, without making proper arrangements, and without getting their medical examination done, the state government forced them to participate in the race. In the greed of jobs, the youth were forced to run and even lost their lives. He said that this government is causing the death of the youth.
He said that this government is linking the death of the youth to the disease of corona and its vaccine.
No deaths in test for CRPF, BSF, Agni Veers
He said that after Corona, the recruitment process was conducted for police and army across the country. “CRPF, BSF, and Agni Veer jawans were recruited but no complaint of death came from anywhere. It is very shameful for the Hemant government to run away from its responsibility by linking the death to corona,” he maintained.
He strongly condemned the heart-wrenching incident and demanded the state government postpone the recruitment process till September 15. “There should be a medical examination of the youth before their physical test, a glass of milk and an apple should be arranged for them at the centre,” he said.
Compensation of Rs 50 lakh
The BJP demanded that the Hemant government should give compensation of Rs 50 lakh to the families of the deceased and a government job to one member.
He said that the state leadership of BJP will meet the families of all the deceased to express condolences and provide assistance of one lakh rupees.
“If the state government does not take cognisance within the next seven days, then the BJP will demand an inquiry by the National Human Rights Commission,” he warned.
He also assured that the upcoming BJP government will give jobs to the kin of all the deceased if the Hemant government does not give jobs to them.
