Chandigarh, September 5: The Punjab Cabinet on Thursday approved an increase in value-added tax (VAT) on petrol by 61 paise per litre and on diesel by 92 paise per litre.

The council of ministers, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, made this decision during a meeting held in Chandigarh.

Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, addressing the media following the Cabinet meeting, confirmed the decision to increase VAT on petrol and diesel.

He stated that VAT on petrol would be increased by 61 paise per litre, and for diesel, it would rise by 92 paise per litre.

Cheema mentioned that the VAT hike on fuel is projected to boost revenue by Rs 395 crore from diesel and Rs 150 crore from petrol.
