Ranchi, Sept 9: The Jharkhand High Court today refused to grant bail to Rahul Raj, who is in jail for raping and killing a B.Tech student, and has upheld his death sentence. The High Court rejected his appeal petition on Monday.
Ranchi CBI Special Court
Rahul Raj was sentenced to death by the Ranchi CBI Special Court, against which he had filed a petition in the High Court.
A division bench of Justice Ananda Sen and Justice Gautam Kumar Chaudhary heard the case. The Ranchi CBI Special Court convicted Rahul Raj on December 20, 2019, and sentenced him to death on December 21.

Notably, the engineering student returned home from college at 6 pm on December 15, 2016. Rahul had followed her all day. At around 4 am on December 16, Rahul entered the student’s house. He opened the grill lock. The student had not locked her room from inside. Rahul went inside and started strangling her. Then he raped her. When the girl became unconscious, he strangled her with an iron wire. He took off her clothes and threw her in the next room and set her on fire.
CBI grilled 300 people to get hold of Rahul
After killing her, he poured the oil kept in the next room on her body and set her on fire. Then he left the place by locking the door. In this case, the police traced Rahul based on a mobile call dump in Booty Basti. About 300 people were questioned. During this, it was found that Rahul was a resident of Nalanda.
DNA test nailed Rahul
A case of rape of a minor is also registered against him in Patna. He was lodged in Lucknow jail. After this, a DNA test of Rahul’s parents and the victim’s swab and nail fragments was done. In this, Rahul’s mother’s DNA matched. Based on this evidence, he was sentenced to death.
