Jamshedpur, Nov 21: As many as five wild elephants were electrocuted at a jungle stretch under the Mosabani Thana area in the Ghatsila sub-division of the East Singhbhum district on Tuesday.
The electrocution is said to have been caused by a high-tension line that fell on the forest stretch. The high-tension line had been drawn reportedly to feed the power supply to Hindustan Copper Ltd in Ghatsila.
What is worse though is that so many elephants were killed at a stretch, and the forest department seems to be not least concerned about the tragedy.

None of the forest officials, including the Jamshedpur DFO, Mamta Priyadarshi, is responding to calls made by The Jharkhand Story despite repeated attempts.
The OC Mosabani Thana, when contacted, could just reply that they are also aware of the elephants’ death but are yet to locate the place of mishap.
According to a source, a section of villagers in Mosabani were driving a herd of 12 wild elephants away towards the forest this morning and incidentally discovered five elephants lying dead in the jungle. The villagers had subsequently found a pair of fallen high-tension wires entangled with the dead elephants’ carcass.
