Korba, Oct 19: Police reported on Saturday that a jawan from the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) allegedly ended his life by shooting himself with his service weapon while on security duty at a coal mine in Korba, Chhattisgarh.
According to Korba Additional Superintendent of Police Neha Verma, the incident occurred on Friday night at the Kusmunda open-cast coal mine, operated by South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India.
She added that Azad Singh, from the 1st battalion of the paramilitary unit Tripura State Rifles (TSR) was on security duty at coal stock no. 29 when he shot himself with his AK-47 service rifle, resulting in his immediate death.
She said that following the alert, a police team arrived at the location and forwarded the body for a post-mortem.
Singh was from Rajasthan, and his family has been informed, she stated.
Sanish Chandra, the Public Relations Officer of SECL, stated that Singh’s colleague reported he had been experiencing stress over the past few days due to a family dispute. However, no suicide note was discovered, and the exact reason for his drastic action remains unclear.
