Jharkhand polls: Record cash seizure of Rs 92.24 lakh in Dhanbad

Dhanbad, Oct 24: Dhanbad district election authorities made a remarkable cash seizure of ₹92.24 lakh in a single day from seven different vehicles during inspections following the assembly polls notification on Wednesday.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Madhvi Mishra and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) HP Janardhan released a joint statement announcing that a total of ₹92,24,181 had been confiscated by 7 PM on Wednesday in efforts to ensure free and fair assembly elections in the district.

The largest seizure occurred at the Dhanbad-Bokaro check post, where ₹71.97 lakh was confiscated. Additionally, ₹2 lakh was seized from another vehicle.

Other significant amounts included ₹8,44,431 from vehicles in the Bank More police station area, ₹3,59,950 from the Dhansar police station area, ₹3.5 lakh at the Barakar check post on the Jharkhand-Bengal border, ₹2,18,800 in the Topchachi police station area, and ₹54,000 from another vehicle.

Measures to curb malpractices 

The DC and SSP emphasized that to combat cash trafficking intended to influence voters, as well as to monitor the movement of liquor and other banned items, the district election team has established 11 interstate check posts and five inter-district check posts.

“In addition, Flying Squads and Statistical Surveillance team members are closely monitoring passersby in the district,” said the officials.
