Ranchi, Nov 15: In a significant shift, women voters outnumbered male voters in the first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections, held on November 13 across 43 seats.

According to official data from the Election Commission of India, the overall voter turnout for the first phase was 66.65%. Of this, male voter turnout was 64.27%, while female voter turnout was higher at 69.04%. The third gender turnout was recorded at 31.02%.

2.75% turnout increase from 2019 

The official records released on Friday reveal that the voter turnout in the first phase has surpassed the 2019 Assembly elections by 2.75%.

Notably, female voters have surpassed male voters by 4.8%, marking a significant shift in the electoral engagement of women in Jharkhand.

Male voters outnumber women on just 5 seats

Male voter turnout was higher than female turnout in only five of the 43 constituencies: Ranchi, Jamshedpur East, Tamar, Saraikella, and Khunti. In all other constituencies, female voters outnumbered their male counterparts.

On the Ranchi seat, the turnout for male voters was 52.89%, compared to 52.02% for women. In Khunti, male voter turnout was 69.81%, while female turnout was slightly higher at 69.76%. On Tamar, the male turnout stood at 74.58%, with female turnout at 74.17%. In Jamshedpur East, male voter turnout was 59.08%, while female turnout was 56.64%.

Highest female turnout in Barkatha and Barhi seats 

The Barkatha seat recorded the highest female voter turnout, with women polling 72.63%, 17% more than male voters, who had a turnout of just 55.23%.

The Barhi seat followed closely, with female voters registering a turnout of 73.30%, compared to 58.23% for male voters.

These figures highlight the growing participation of women in the political process in Jharkhand.
