New Delhi, Nov 25: On the reference of the anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal, the CBI has opened a preliminary enquiry (PE) against Mahua Moitra, the Lok Sabha MP for the Trinamool Congress, in the cash-for-query case, officials stated on Saturday.
“We have initiated an enquiry on orders of Lokpal. We have not registered a Preliminary Enquiry or FIR against Mahua Moitra as yet,” CBI sources stated.
In order to determine whether the claims warrant a thorough investigation, the CBI has opened a preliminary enquiry. If there is sufficient prima facie evidence discovered during the preliminary enquiry, the CBI has the authority to escalate it to a full-fledged FIR.

Moitra’s login accessed 47 times from UAE: LS Ethics Committee
The accusations made against her are also being investigated by the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee.
In its draft report, the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee charged Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra of engaging in “unethical conduct” and disclosing her ID login credentials to unauthorized individuals, sources stated on Thursday.
The draft report on Mahua Moitra’s cash-for-questions case, according to the sources, shows that she travelled to the United Arab Emirates four times between 2019 and 2023, during which time her login was accessed multiple times.
The ethics committee’s draft report states that “her member portal login credentials were accessed from Dubai on 47 occasions.”

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey complained Lokpal
Nishikant Dubey, a BJP MP, filed a complaint with the Lokpal, alleging that Moitra had accepted bribes in exchange for posing questions in Parliament.
Dubey further accused Moitra of jeopardizing national security for financial gains.
Dubey accused Moitra of directing questions in the Lok Sabha to target the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in return for gifts, allegedly orchestrated by businessman Darshan Hiranandani.
Moitra denies all accusations
Moitra, refuting any misconduct, stated that she was facing scrutiny because of her inquiries into the Adani group’s dealings.
