New Delhi, Dec 24: Severe cold is sweeping across North India and the rest of the country. According to the meteorological department, the cold is expected to intensify further.
The department has predicted rainfall in several states, including the national capital Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana.
Temperature in Kashmir Valley drops to minus 6°C
Heavy snowfall is occurring in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the closure of 30 roads. The NH 5 route from Shimla to Narkanda has been closed, and several tourists are stranded there. Restoration work is ongoing.
In Kashmir, the cold wave is wreaking havoc, with temperatures dropping several degrees below zero. The temperature in the Kashmir Valley has reached -6°C. The surface of Dal Lake has frozen.
The meteorological department has advised tourists visiting Jammu and Kashmir to follow the traffic advisories issued by the authorities.

Met Dept predicts rain in several states
According to the meteorological department, due to the activation of a western disturbance, light rain with thunder and lightning is expected in Delhi. The IMD has issued a yellow alert in this regard.
The maximum temperature in Delhi on December 24 is expected to be 20°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to be 8°C.
Additionally, rainfall is also possible in states like Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana. Light to moderate rain is expected in parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and southern Chhattisgarh.
On December 24, light rain with thunder and lightning is likely in the western and eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh.
