New Delhi, Jan 6: China’s Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) has entered India, with two cases reported in Karnataka. According to reports, an eight-month-old male child in Bengaluru has been infected with this virus. The child was admitted to a private hospital in the city due to a fever. A blood test revealed the presence of a virus resembling HMPV.

The other case involves a three-month-old female infant diagnosed with HMPV after being admitted to Bengaluru’s Baptist Hospital. She had a prior history of bronchopneumonia and was discharged following treatment.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has identified two cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in Karnataka. This information was shared by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The cases were detected during ICMR’s ongoing surveillance efforts against respiratory illnesses across the country.
