Ranchi, Dec. 4: A 5 year and 10 months old, weighing 120 kg tigress, Saraswati of the Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park at Ormanjhi here died of 5th-stage kidney failure on the early morning of December 3 Sunday.

The tigress was post-mortemed as per the NTCA protocol and then burnt to ashes again as per the disposal procedures as laid by the NTCA.

Viscera has been preserved for analysis in the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Bareilly UP.

The tigress had a very high level of serum creatinine beginning 8.8mg to 11mg and it proved fatal for the tigress.

Samples of her blood were collected in her fasting condition.

Following the death of this tigress, this biological park is now left with eight tigers.

An official of the Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park confirmed the casualty of the captive tigress in the park on Sunday.

The park authorities could learn about its death around 9 in the morning of Sunday.

Sources said the local veterinary experts made all efforts to bring back this tigress to health but in vain.

The tigress was first noticed ailing on November 22. Her treatment began but her condition showed a run down continuously.

Wild life experts say that tiger or tigress aging more than 4 years is vulnerable to kidney ailments and if timely detection and treatment do not come fast, chances of survival remain very thin.

A team of dedicated senior veterinary doctors led by M K Gupta had treated the tigress. However the tigress continued to develop health complications day by day.
