THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

New Delhi, Feb 25: Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court today handed a life sentence to former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar for his involvement in the killing of a father and son during the 1984 Anti-Sikh riots in Saraswati Vihar.

This follows his conviction on February 12 for the double murder.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja imposed the life sentence on Kumar, convicting him of multiple charges, including murder (Section 302) and destruction of property by fire (Section 436), both in connection with an unlawful assembly under Section 149 of the Indian Penal Code.

Riot victims had pushed for the death penalty for the accused.

Kumar, who is already serving a life term following his 2018 conviction in a separate anti-Sikh riot case, was sentenced after the Rouse Avenue court had reserved its order on February 21.
