Gir Somnath, March 3: Prime Minister Modi is on a visit to Gujarat. On Monday, on the occasion of World Wildlife Day, he enjoyed a lion safari at Gir National Park. Dressed in a safari outfit, he was seen capturing glimpses of Gir’s Asiatic lions with his camera.

The Prime Minister later also interacted with the ground staff at Gir National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary, emphasizing the need for wildlife conservation.

Notably, PM Modi arrived at Sinh Sadan, the state forest department’s guest house in Gir National Park, on Sunday night and set out for the jungle safari on Monday morning. He explored the wildlife sanctuary in Gujarat’s Junagadh district, experiencing the thrill of the safari.

When Prime Minister Modi set out for the jungle safari from Sinh Sadan, he was accompanied by several ministers and senior forest department officials.

Reports indicate that he will chair the seventh meeting of the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) at the headquarters of Gir Wildlife Sanctuary in Sasan Gir.

The NBWL comprises 47 members, including the Army Chief, representatives from various states, NGOs working in the wildlife sector, Chief Wildlife Wardens, and secretaries from different states.

The central government has approved a fund of over ₹2,900 crore under Project Lion for the conservation of Asiatic lions, whose only habitat is in Gujarat. Currently, these lions are spread across 53 talukas in nine districts of Gujarat, covering an area of approximately 30,000 square kilometers.
