THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

Kolkata, March 27: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has suspended five of its personnel, including an inspector and a lady constable, after their arrest by Kolkata Police for allegedly posing as Income Tax officials and looting a house in Chinar Park on March 18.

A total of eight persons including five CISF personnel have been arrested in the case.

The force has also launched an internal enquiry, led by a senior officer, and assured full cooperation with the police, promising strict action against those found guilty.

Fake Raid and Looting Incident

According to the police, the accused conducted a pre-dawn raid at the residence of Vinita Singh, pretending to be Income Tax officers. They allegedly seized Rs 3 lakh in cash, jewelry worth Rs 25 lakh, and even took away the digital video recorder of the home’s CCTV system.

The family grew suspicious when the fake officials entered the stepmother’s room but left without taking anything. When Vinita Singh later contacted the Income Tax Department, she discovered that no such raid had been conducted. Realizing they had been duped, the family promptly lodged a police complaint.

Arrests Following Investigation

Bidhannagar Police launched an investigation and identified the suspects’ vehicle through CCTV footage. Based on the registration number, they arrested the driver, Deepak Rana, who revealed the entire plot under interrogation. His confession led to the arrest of a middleman, who further disclosed the involvement of CISF personnel.

The arrested individuals include CISF Inspector Amit Kumar Singh, stationed at Farakka Barrage, Lady Constable Lakshmi Kumari from RG Kar Hospital, Constable Bimal Thapa, Head Constable Ramu Saroj, and Constable Janardan Shah.

Additionally, the businessman’s stepmother, Aarti Singh, and a middleman were also taken into custody.

All the accused were presented in court on Wednesday and subsequently sent to judicial custody.

Property Dispute Behind the Crime

Police investigations revealed that Vinita Singh and her stepmother, Aarti Singh, had an ongoing property dispute. Allegedly, Aarti Singh and one of her relatives conspired with CISF Inspector Amit Kumar Singh to stage a fake Income Tax raid, intending to seize cash and valuables for themselves.

CISF and Police Response

A spokesperson for the CISF confirmed that all five personnel involved in the crime have been suspended and assured that further disciplinary action will be taken based on the findings of the internal investigation.

Bidhannagar Airport Zone DCP, IPS Aishwarya Sagar, stated that the accused misled the family by instructing them not to contact authorities, claiming the department would reach out if necessary. However, the family’s prompt action in verifying the raid’s legitimacy led to the exposure of the fraud and the swift arrest of the culprits.

The CISF reaffirmed its commitment to upholding law and order, stressing that those responsible for misconduct will face severe consequences. Meanwhile, the police continue to investigate whether the accused were involved in similar fraudulent activities in the past.
