Amit Shah visits BSF post along India-Pakistan border in J&K’s Kathua

Jammu, April 7: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, currently on a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, visited a forward Border Security Force (BSF) post along the India-Pakistan border in Kathua district on Monday. The visit comes amid an ongoing massive operation against Pakistani terrorists, active in the region for the past fortnight.

Shah flew from Jammu to the Hiranagar sector around noon and was escorted to BSF Outpost ‘Vinay’ to assess the ground situation. He was received by BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chaudhary, Jammu and Kashmir DGP Nalin Prabhat, IG of BSF Jammu Frontier Shashank Anand, and Jammu Zone IG Bhim Sen Tuti.

Security across Jammu and Kashmir has been tightened due to Shah’s visit. Senior officers are expected to brief him on the security situation along the border.

Focus on Development and Security Review

On Sunday evening, Shah arrived in Jammu and held a closed-door meeting with BJP MLAs and office-bearers at the party headquarters.

This visit marks Shah’s first trip to the Union Territory since the formation of the National Conference government in October last year.

On Tuesday, Shah will review various development programmes at a meeting in Raj Bhavan, Srinagar. He will also chair another high-level meeting to assess the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Ongoing Anti-Terror Operation in Kathua

A large-scale search operation has been ongoing in Kathua’s forest areas since March 23, after security forces intercepted a group of five terrorists who infiltrated through the Hiranagar sector. A fierce encounter on March 27 led to the deaths of four policemen and two terrorists.

Following his visit to Kathua, Shah is scheduled to meet the families of fallen Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel and hand over appointment letters to family members selected on compassionate grounds at Raj Bhavan in Jammu.
