India secures 43 medals at Asian U-15 & U-17 Boxing Championships

Amman, April 26: India’s young boxing contingent has secured an impressive total of 43 medals at the first-ever Asian U-15 and U-17 Boxing Championships, organised by the newly recognised Asian Boxing body affiliated with World Boxing.

According to a press release from the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), India is guaranteed 43 medals, with four more boxers advancing to the semifinals on Day 7.

With semifinalists guaranteed at least a bronze, India is now assured of 25 medals in the U-15 category and 18 medals in the U-17 division.

The latest semifinalists include Aman Siwach (63kg) and Devansh (80kg) in the U-17 boys’ section, both earning Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) victories over competitors from the Philippines and Jordan, respectively.

In the girls’ U-17 events, Simranjeet Kaur (60kg) secured a dominant 5-0 win against Jordan’s Aya Alhasanat, while Himanshi (70kg) wrapped up her bout in the opening round with an RSC triumph over Palestine’s Farah Abou Layla.

Meanwhile, Day 7 saw mixed fortunes for the Indian team. In the U-17 boys’ quarterfinals, Sahil Duhan (60kg) suffered a narrow 2-3 defeat to Iran’s Amirali Mehrabi, while Anant Gaurishankar Deshmukh (66kg), Priyansh Sehrawat (75kg), and Loven Gulia (80+kg) also bowed out after losses to opponents from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Iran, respectively.

In the women’s U-17 division, both Simranjeet and Himanshi’s powerful performances ensured India’s strong presence in the semifinals, keeping alive the hopes of a bigger medal haul as the tournament progresses.
