Ranchi, April 29: In a strong message aimed at improving healthcare in the state, Jharkhand’s health minister Dr Irfan Ansari announced that the government is set to appoint the best doctors across public hospitals and is exploring the use of artificial intelligence in treatment. At the same time, private hospitals came under fire for allegedly refusing care to critically ill patients once the government scheme funds run out.

State to bring in top medical talent

Speaking at a health workshop in Ranchi, the minister said the government is committed to raising the standard of care in public health institutions and ensuring quality treatment for every citizen.

“We are ready to provide quality treatment across the state. The best doctors will be appointed. We’re also working to improve RIMS and plan to bring AI into healthcare delivery,” he said.

He praised the efforts of health department staff and encouraged open communication. “If there’s any issue, come directly to me. I want the health system to function smoothly.”

Private hospitals under scrutiny

The minister also took a firm stance on the role of private hospitals under government schemes such as Ayushman Bharat Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya and Abua Swasthya Suraksha Yojana.

“Many private hospitals stop treatment once the patient’s scheme funds are exhausted, and then refer them elsewhere—even in critical condition. This is inhumane. Hospitals must take full responsibility for patient care,” he said.

Noting the absence of some private hospital representatives at the workshop, he added that a separate session would be held to ensure their participation and compliance.
