Jammu, May 9: Amid heightened tensions along the India-Pakistan border, the Border Security Force (BSF) said on Friday that it had thwarted a major infiltration bid along the India-Pakistan International Border in the Samba Sector of Jammu, killing seven terrorists and causing severe damage to a Pakistan Rangers post that was aiding the intrusion.

The attempt took place during the intervening night of May 8 and 9, when a heavily armed group of terrorists tried to cross into Indian territory under cover fire from the Pakistani side. According to the BSF, its advanced surveillance grid detected the movement near the International Border, prompting an immediate and fierce response.

BSF troops engaged the infiltrators in a gunbattle, successfully neutralising all seven. The force also inflicted heavy damage on the Pakistan Rangers’ Dhandhar post, which was supporting the infiltration.

A Hand-Held Thermal Imager (HHTI) video clip released by the BSF shows the destruction caused to the Pakistani post.

With tensions running high following the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam and India’s retaliatory strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, the BSF remains on heightened alert along the 3,323-km-long International Border.
