Srinagar, May 13: Tension between India and Pakistan had momentarily eased following a ceasefire, but on Tuesday, a gunfight broke out between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.
Security forces launched an operation in the Shukroo forest area of Keller in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, where they surrounded four terrorists. Three of the terrorists, affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), were killed in the encounter.
Security forces had received intelligence about the presence of multiple terrorists in the area.

Acting on the information, they launched a search operation and cordoned off the region. During the operation, terrorists opened fire, prompting retaliatory action from the security forces.
The identities of two of the three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)-affiliated terrorists who were killed have been confirmed. One of the terrorists was identified as Shahid Kuttay, the son of Mohd Yousuf Kuttay, from Chotipora Heerpora in Shopian. Kuttay, a Category A LeT operative, was involved in the shooting incident at the Danish Resort in Srinagar on April 8, 2024, which left two German tourists and one driver injured.
He joined the terrorist group on March 8, 2023. Kuttay was also implicated in the murder of a BJP Sarpanch at Heerpora on May 18, 2024, and is suspected to have been involved in the killing of a Territorial Army personnel in Behibagh, Kulgam, on February 3, 2025.
The second identified terrorist was Adnan Shafi Dar, the son of Mohd Shafi Dar, from Wanduna Melhora in Shopian. Dar, a Category C LeT operative, joined the terrorist group on October 18, 2024, and was involved in the murder of non-local laborers in Wachi, Shopian, on the same date. The identity of the third terrorist remains unconfirmed.

Notably, on April 22, terrorists had killed 26 civilians in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. In response, the Indian Army launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ against Pakistan.
Following the operation, both Indian and Pakistani forces engaged in aerial strikes. Three days ago, both countries announced a ceasefire, but despite that, a fresh encounter has now erupted with terrorists.
