New Delhi, May 13: In connection with the April 2024 protest outside the Election Commission of India (ECI), Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court today granted bail to several TMC leaders, including Derek O’Brien, Sagarika Ghosh, and Saket Gokhale.

The court granted bail to five sitting MPs on a personal bond of Rs 10,000 each, while other accused leaders were granted bail on the same bond amount, along with one surety.

The bail was granted after the charge sheet was filed without any arrests. The court acknowledged that all accused, except Vivek Gupta, had furnished and had their bail bonds accepted.

Vivek Gupta attended the proceedings via video conferencing, while the other accused, including Derek O’Brien, Sagarika Ghosh, and Saket Gokhale, were present physically.

The next hearing has been scheduled for May 21.

The case involves the alleged unlawful assembly of TMC leaders on April 8, 2024, outside the Election Commission of India in protest ahead of the General Election.

Despite warnings and the imposition of Section 144 of the Cr.P.C., the leaders continued their demonstration, leading to the registration of the FIR.

The court had issued summons to 10 TMC leaders, including MPs Derek O’Brien, Mohd. Nadimul Haque, Dola Sen, Saket Gokhale, and Sagarika Ghosh.

The charges against them include disobedience of public orders and unlawful assembly, as outlined under Sections 188, 145, and 34 of the IPC.
