Jamshedpur, July 2: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of alerts for Jharkhand, forecasting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms at isolated places across the state over the next several days.

The weather activity is attributed to a well-marked low-pressure area currently lying over Jharkhand and its adjoining regions.

According to the IMD bulletin, the low-pressure area, which originated over Gangetic West Bengal and north Odisha, was positioned over Jharkhand.

The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 Km above mean sea level and is expected to drift slowly west-northwestwards across the state within the next 24 hours.

Weather Systems in Play

The monsoon trough at mean sea level is currently active, passing through Sri Ganganagar, Rohtak, Kanpur, Varanasi, the low-pressure center over Jharkhand, Digha, and extending southeastward to the Bay of Bengal.

Additionally, a trough in the mid-troposphere is extending from northwest Uttar Pradesh to the cyclonic circulation over Jharkhand, further enhancing the rainfall potential.

Residents, especially in the northern parts of Jharkhand, are advised to remain alert for possible waterlogging, lightning strikes, and temporary disruption of local transport and electricity services.

IMD authorities may issue updates or warnings as the system progresses.
