Ranchi, July 16: Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, the newly appointed Chief Justice of Jharkhand, will be sworn in at 10:00 am on July 23. Following communication from the High Court to the Raj Bhavan, preparations for the oath-taking ceremony are now underway.

The current Chief Justice, Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao, is set to take oath as the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court on July 22. Meanwhile, Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court, will assume office as Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court on 18 July.

Based on a recommendation from the Supreme Court collegium, the President has appointed Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan of the Himachal Pradesh High Court to the post of Chief Justice of Jharkhand. The Central Government issued the official notification on July 14, stating that the appointment would take effect from the date he assumes office.

There is, however, uncertainty regarding whether a farewell ceremony will be held for Justice Rao. The Advocates’ Association, which has had a strained relationship with the outgoing chief justice, has yet to make a final decision. Association President Ritu Kumar noted, “The Chief Justice has proceeded on leave. We will certainly hold a farewell function if he agrees.”
