Ranchi, July 29: The Jharkhand Biodiversity Board (JBB) has established a medicinal garden at ASTVS Jila School in Ranchi, marking the first such initiative in a school within the state capital. Alongside the inauguration, JBB organized a workshop aimed at spreading awareness on biodiversity conservation.
PCCF Highlights Importance of Medicinal Plants
Speaking at the workshop as the chief guest, Jharkhand’s Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) and JBB Member Secretary, Sanjeev Kumar, emphasized the significance of medicinal gardens. He noted that while herbs have been used for generations, traditional knowledge about their applications is rapidly diminishing.

“To protect people from the adverse impacts of soil erosion, water scarcity, and climate change, it is essential to preserve traditional knowledge related to medicinal plants,” said Kumar.


Plans to Raise Awareness Among Locals
The JBB Member Secretary informed that efforts are underway to generate awareness among local communities and encourage their involvement in biodiversity conservation. He also urged students and participants to take an oath to safeguard the environment.
Principal of Jila School, Dr. Yasmin Gagariya, lauded the initiative and assured full cooperation in preserving biodiversity. She, along with students and community members, pledged to support the cause.

Experts Share Insights on Biodiversity Management
District Council member Adil Azim and board member Dr. Prasenjit Mukherjee also shared their views during the event. Hari Shankar Lal, Technical Officer of JBB, delivered a detailed presentation on the role of local species management committees and relevant biodiversity acts.
Board officials, including Manish Kumar, Sunil Kumar, Dhirendra Kumar, and Moni Kumari, actively participated in the program, along with interns from various colleges such as Tanishq, Manisha, Neetu, Jyotsana, Mausam, and Pallavi Bharti.
