Jharkhand records 49 % surplus rain; heavy showers forecast in coming days

Jamshedpur, August 2: Jharkhand is currently experiencing an active monsoon phase, with widespread rainfall resulting in a 49 per cent surplus so far this season. Against the normal 347 mm of rainfall, the state has already received 517 mm, resulting in a significant excess.

According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rain is expected on August 2 over north-western parts of the state, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds (30-40 kmph) at isolated locations.

The forecast for August 3 to 5 also indicates thunderstorms, lightning, and rain at isolated places across the state.

Synoptic conditions indicate that the monsoon trough at mean sea level passes through Sri Ganganagar, Rohtak, Shahjahanpur, Gorakhpur, Darbhanga, Shantiniketan, Canning, and extends to the northeast Bay of Bengal.

An upper air cyclonic circulation persists over East Uttar Pradesh and the neighbourhood up to 1.5 Km above mean sea level.

Another cyclonic circulation lies over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, extending up to 9.4 Km above mean sea level and tilting southwestwards with height.

These atmospheric systems are likely to sustain the wet spell over Jharkhand in the coming days.
