New Delhi, Dec 14: Following the earlier suspension of five Congress Lok Sabha members for the remainder of the winter session on Thursday, an additional nine opposition MPs were also suspended for the same duration due to their unruly behaviour.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi moved the motion to suspend nine opposition Members of Parliament: Benny Behanan, VK Sreekandan, Mohammad Jawed, PR Natarajan, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, K Subrahmanyam, SR Parthiban, S Venkatesan, and Manickam Tagore.
Shortly after the House convened at 3 p.m. after adjourning earlier, the MPs were suspended. Subsequently, the House was adjourned for the day.
Among the 14 suspended MPs from Lok Sabha, nine are from Congress, two from CPM, two from DMK and one from the CPI.

Five Congress MP’s suspended earlier
Earlier in the day, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi moved a motion leading to the suspension of five Congress members from the Lok Sabha for the remainder of the winter session on Thursday, citing “unruly behaviour.”
For the rest of the winter session, which ends on December 22, Joshi moved the motion to suspend the following Congress MPs: TN Prathapan, Hibi Eden, S Jothimani, Ramya Haridas, and Dean Kuriakose.
After informing the House of the actions taken following yesterday’s security breach event, in which two persons leaped from the visitor’s gallery into the Lok Sabha chamber, he moved the motion.
Bhartruhari Mahtab of the BJD presided over the chair when the motion was proposed and approved amidst slogans from opposition members.
The House was adjourned earlier in the day, and the motion was made shortly after it reconvened at 2:00 PM.
Joshi said the investigation into yesterday’s incident has started after Speaker Om Birla wrote the Home Secretary requesting a high-level investigation.
“The Lok Sabha Speaker held a meeting with all the floor leaders and listened to their solutions for the further strengthening of the security in the parliament. Some of the suggestions given have already been implemented. No politics should be done on this issue,” said Joshi.
Derek O’Brien suspended from Rajya Sabha
As a result of his “gross misconduct” and “defying the Chair” during the proceedings on Thursday morning, Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Derek O’Brien has been suspended from taking part in the remainder of the winter session of parliament which will continue until December 22.
A motion to suspend the Trinamool member was adopted by the Upper House of the Parliament.
O’Brien had asked talking about the security breach event, in which two individuals blew up yellow smoke canisters by jumping from the visitors’ gallery into the Lok Sabha.
Shortly afterwards, the Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar named the Trinamool MP and instructed him to exit the House.
In spite of the Chair’s warning, O’Brien and a few other opposition members persisted in their protest and asked that Union Home Minister Amit Shah appear in the House to answer for the security breach incident that occurred yesterday.
