THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK
Ranchi, August 15: Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Gupta unfurled the national flag at the Police Headquarters this morning, leading the state’s 79th Independence Day celebrations. In his address, the DGP saluted the sacrifices of freedom fighters and vowed to strengthen the fight against Naxalism, organised crime, drugs, and cyber threats.
Tough Stand Against Naxalism and Terror
Between January and June 2025, Jharkhand Police arrested 197 Naxalites, facilitated the surrender of 10, and neutralised 17 in encounters. The DGP paid tribute to four personnel martyred in anti-Naxal operations this year, calling their sacrifice “a beacon of courage” for the force. The Anti-Terrorism Squad also dismantled organised criminal networks, arresting 12 gang members and five operatives of the banned outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir.
Crushing the Drug Trade
The war on drugs saw 484 arrests in the first half of 2025, with illegal substances worth ₹34.09 crore seized. In a major blow to the narcotics trade, opium crops over 27,000 acres were destroyed.

Cyber Crime Crackdown
Cybercrime crackdowns led to over 700 arrests, ₹16 crore recovered from fraud cases, and ₹80 lakh refunded to victims through swift legal action. The Pratibimb App and Cyber Helpline (1930) played a pivotal role in these successes.
Public Welfare and Women’s Safety
The Public Grievance Solution Programme resolved nearly 3,500 citizen complaints this year, while welfare initiatives provided ₹15 crore in assistance to 622 beneficiaries. Promotions and ACP/MACP benefits reached thousands of officers, with 108 dependants of deceased personnel given compassionate appointments.
Highlighting women’s safety as a priority, the DGP noted that Women’s Help Desks are now operational in all districts, alongside dedicated women’s police stations and the newly formed Mahila Shakti Commando. Concluding his speech, he urged citizens to join hands in building a cleaner, safer, and prosperous Jharkhand, declaring: “Together, we will make our state free from crime and Naxalism. Jai Hind!”
