Subernarekha and Kharkai rivers cross danger mark in East Singhbhum

Jamshedpur, August 23: Continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days has caused a sharp rise in the water levels of the Subernarekha and Kharkai rivers in East Singhbhum district.

Both rivers have now crossed the danger mark, prompting the district administration to issue an alert for residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Present River Conditions

Subernarekha River (Mango Bridge Site):

Danger Level: 121.50 metres

Current Level: 121.64 metres

Kharkai River (Adityapur Bridge Site):

Danger Level: 129.00 metres

Current Level: 130.15 metres

Administration’s Preparedness and Public Advisory

The district administration has put all departments, including disaster management teams, NDRF/SDRF units, and civic bodies, on high alert.

Round-the-clock monitoring of water levels is being carried out at key locations.

Control rooms have been activated to respond quickly to emergencies and to provide assistance to affected families.

People living in low-lying areas, riverbanks, and flood-prone zones have been advised to move to safer and elevated locations immediately.

Residents are strictly urged not to venture near rivers, bridges, or inundated areas to avoid accidents.

The administration has also appealed people to remain calm, follow official instructions, and extend cooperation to local authorities to ensure safety of life and property.
